Independence Day

As the pyros light up the sky

I think of you and I

You shot up into my view

I couldn’t take my eyes off of you

Exploding onto the scene

Almost felt like a dream

Your colors so bright

What a beautiful sight

Difference is, you’re here year ’round

Always there to make my heart pound

So, when tonight comes to a close

I’ll still be Jack, you’ll be my Rose

There is no need for goodbye

Our spark will never die.

Death

Always take the time

To spread love to all

For you never know

When death is going to call

The phone rang two years ago

March seventh, to be exact

“Brandon’s been in an accident-he passed.”

I couldn’t even react.

A friend with a heart of gold

Loved by all and hated by none

Gone in an instant

His parents lost their only son

Though my heartache never ceases

I carry on strong

Knowing Brandon is with me

On his own ride along

I cherish the lessons I learned

From a brother wise beyond his age

Whose advice kept me on track

Acting as my personal sage

The memories hold strong

Like our last night together

“I’m proud of you, Michael”

I’d never felt better

I’ll see you one day my friend

When my time is up too

Until that time comes

I’ll be missing you.
